Heidi & Becki play Neo Geo game Cyber Lip!

Neo Geo Game - Cyber-LipI’ve finally finished editing the first video of mine and Becki’s Neo Geo play session :) I really wanna make more videos like this, but it is very time consuming, but I’m trying my best to make videos whenever I have some spare time ^_^ Anyway, we had so much fun with the Neo Geo games! The first game we tried out was Cyber Lip! An action platform game that resembles Contra a lot. We love it when we find simultaneous co-op games, and the Neo Geo has loads of those! More videos will come soon with the rest of the games we played, like Garou Densetsu, Ghost Pilots and Sengoku :)

Check out the video and let me know what you think! ^__^

Girl’s Gaming Weekend!

So here’s what we’ve been up to this weekend..
Like usual we get stuck playing only on the Xbox the whole weekend since it offers such a wide variety of gaming ^_^

We played a lot of retail games, but also lots of XBLA. Here’s the retail games we played:

We started off with “Sonic Sega All-Stars Racing with Banjo-Kazooie” (wasn’t just Sega All-Stars Racing enough for a title??). It was an entertaining game though, a good racer, kind of like Mario Kart. However it got boring after we’d tried all the varieties of gameplay such as racing, capture the flag, king of the hill, battle etc..

Next up was DeBlob 2, it said it was 2 player co-op, however the second player didn’t earn achievements and was just an animated little dot on the screen which could help out collect shit.. that was a disappointment, but we still played it for a while before our fourth player arrived. We took turns just painting the cities, it was a bit too child-friendly though. The tutorials were constant! And you couldn’t turn them off >_<

No shit?! That’s only the 25th switch we’ve encountered!!!

While waiting for MissDeluxxe to arrive, we played some old arcades games through Game Room on Xbox. We took turns battling in several old arcade classics from Atari and Intellivision.

Such as Armor Battle, where you have to take out each others tanks. A lot of fun!

Also Combat where we tried out several different game types fighting with tanks, helicopters or planes. This is also a great game! and very hard since you can shoot through the walls and the bullets come out the other side, not easy avoiding your enemies’ bullets!

And last but not least Outlaw! A lot of fun since you can bounce your bullets on the walls and make them go diagonally. You are stuck on each side of an obstacle in the middle and have to try and shoot each other. As soon as you fire a shot you are frozen in your spot for a few seconds, so you have to make sure to fire first ;D

After our fourth player had arrived we played Fairytale Fights, and continued from where we last left off (read more about Fairytale Fights here). This time we finished the game. The ending wasn’t as entertaining as we had hoped and the last boss was pathetic >_<

My Gaming Girls ^_^

Lastly friday night we played some Scene It?, a movie quiz game. Quite entertaining, but the commentary voice all through the game are extremely annoying >_<

Saturday we started playing a new XBLA game with South Park called South Park: Tenorman’s Revenge! This game was a lot of fun! The creators of South Park is involved in the game, so it’s the original voices, stories and characters from the show and a lot of comedy ^_^ It’s a side scrolling platformer, the controls are smooth and you play as Cartman, Kyle, Kenny and Stan. They all have a special power which you can unlock during certain stages when it is needed. Cartman can turn into the Coon and climb walls, Kyle turns into the Human Kite and can fly short distances, Kenny turns into Mysterion and can turn immortal and Stan turns into the Toolshed, where he gets a tool belt so he can gain access to certain areas. I strongly recommend this game, we had a lot of fun, and weren’t able to finish it since it’s pretty long! It was everybody’s favorite of the weekend!

After this there was some DJ Hero, it makes you feel incredibly cool turning those tables ;D Two of the girls had never played it before, and they got pretty good at it quite fast ^_^

My friend NinjaBrite had brought her C3PO controller, she just got the Star Wars Xbox.. I have to get that too! It would be my fourth Xbox.. but it’s soooo cooool! :D

We ended Saturday evening playing Fable Heroes for XBLA. I finally managed to get that achievement where you have to button mash your way through the mine cart race in under 13 seconds!! We had been trying to get this so many times previously and never succeeded (I don’t know if it might have been thanks to the drinks this time) ;D but I also unlocked it for my friend ^_^

On Sunday we played some Kinect games. We tried Rabbids Alive & Kicking for the first time, it was a hoot! ^_^ I like the Rayman Raving Rabbids games, they’re always great fun when you’re with friends :) They’ve mainly been around for the Wii though, because of the motion control, except one which was released for the Xbox 360 as well, but this one wasn’t as fun when you had to use the regular controller. So now I’m happy they released one for the Kinect! It had a little too much and too long “in-between-actual-gameplay-scenes” but other than that the mini games were fun. There was one where you had to play a guitar, you had to hold your hand on the correct color of the guitar-neck and strike at the right time when matching colors fell down. And a bunch of other games where you just had to jump and stomp or wave your arms around like crazy ^_^

Playing Kinect sure makes you look retarded ;D hahaha

We also tried out an XBLA Kinect game called Hole in the Wall. This game was not very smoothly programmed though, we had bugs all the time and it hardly worked playing it..

We all just kept failing and falling into the water.. we gave up after a few rounds..

After this my Gaming Girl’s had to go home. We had a great weekend though and are already planning the next get-together ^_^

The Baconing – Xbox Live Arcade

Sorry I haven’t published anything in a few days, but I’ve been busy the last three evenings playing the third Deathspank game! The Baconing! It was a lot of fun ^_^ and I just finished it tonight! :D

I didn’t buy it when it just came out, since it was 1200 microsoft points at that moment, so I’ve been waiting, and finally they lowered the price so I bought it ^^

For those of you who haven’t heard of Deathspank, you should really check it out, it’s a really fun action rpg that kind of resembles the Monkey Island games, since it has a lot of humor and it’s filled with silly quests where you have to figure out what to find and where to use it. I really love it!

Deathspank is created by Hothead games which also made Braid (an amazing puzzle-platformer that you should play NOW if you haven’t already!) and the Penny Arcade Adventures.

It also has co-op, however your friend will be more of a sidekick and only the main player will get achievements. It might make it easier though when there’s hordes of enemies coming at you. I died quite frequently however that was mainly because I always rush into close combat and don’t pay attention to explosive barrels, so I always smash them and commit suicide >_< You always spawn at the nearest checkpoint and only loose a bit of cash (which you can run back and collect where you died) so it doesn’t really matter.

This game really has it all.. Cyborques, Pirate ships that you can commandeer, Leprechaun Mafia, A Casino, Valhalla, A two-headed dog, Clones, Z.I.M.O.N says, Aliens, The King (Elvis), and much much much much more!

All three games (Deathspank, Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue & The Baconing) are available on XBLA, and for those of you who don’t play Xbox, it’s on PS3 and Steam as well ^_^

I’m already looking forward to the fourth one!

Gyromite for NES

Yesterday I watched the episode ROB the Robot from AVGN, and it made me wanna play Gyromite, even though I didn’t have the Robot.

James from AVGN made it clear that it is possible to play the game even though you don’t have a robot. However, it demands control over both the P1 and P2 controller, since the P1 controller steers the character while the A and B button on the P2 controller controls the pillars that you need to move up and down to guide the character through the stage. Here’s AVGN’s solution:

I didn’t quite go to the extent of sawing apart two controllers and attaching them together with duct tape. Instead I played it together with my friend Becky, it’s a great game for 2-player co-op ^_^ However I did need to use two controllers myself while recording the game today for the review, one in each hand, not too difficult except when you need to pick up or place a radish which is controlled with A on the P1 controller:

The cartridge says Gyromite, but the title screen claims the name of the game is Robot Gyro… anyway, Gyromite or “Robot Gyro” is a classic arcade style game where you have to collect all the dynamite on each stage to clear it.

There are Dinosaurs that kill you if you touch them, and your character can not jump, so you will have to figure out ways to go around them, or try to crush them with the pillars. You can also pick up radishes and place in front of the Dinos, this will make them stop and eat for a while so you can pass them.

Gradually the stages get harder, and you will have to collect the dynamites in the correct order, otherwise you might get stuck with no way to get back up to collect the remaining dynamites. Then there’s no other option than to crush yourself or wait for the time to run out..

I made it to stage 35 today, apparently there’s 65 stages in total. I might give it another go the next time I have a friend over, cause it’s just more fun that way ;D

If you haven’t seen the AVGN episode with ROB the Robot you should check it out. I definitely have to get me a ROB eventually ^_^

Here’s a video I put together of the 35 levels I got to:

Girl’s Gaming Weekend!

So this weekend I’ve been in Stockholm, playing games with Miss Deluxxe and Ninjabrite, and here’s a little recap of what we were up to! =D

We started off by playing Trine 2. Me and my two closest gaming friends are always on the lookout for nice co-op games for at least 3 people where we can all get achievements. This is not a very easy task. During the years we’ve been going through most of the arcade games which have these aspects, such as TMNT 1983, Turtles in Time, Castle crashers of course and many many others. So when Trine 2 recently came out we were excited and had been waiting to play it until this gaming weekend together. We played for a while, achievements popped for different things some of us were doing, and after some time we realized that all the achievements only went to one person, the player 1 who started the game! The only way for all of us to earn achievements would be if we were playing it on three different xboxes online. Stupid.. why do most games discourage local co-op?!  So we stopped playing it, and will wait until we are once again in different cities only being able to play with each other online. It’s like gaming companies don’t want gamers to actually meet up IRL to play, they make it so much more attractive to play online..

Another game that instead really exceeded our expectations was Fairytale Fights! I’ve had this game for quite some time, but never played it, since me and my friends have been waiting for the next gaming weekend to play it together, and now we finally did! In this game you are fairytale characters that beat up other fairytale creatures. It was funny, filled with gore and blood, brutal, full off events of fun frustration and lead to a lot of laughs. We would also all earn achievements, both story related and personal objectives. This is a fun game that I would recommend to anyone who likes playing together with friends co-op in quest mode or friendly fighting, since the game also has an arena mode where you can see who can kick who’s ass the most ^_^

These were our characters: Snow white, Little Red Riding Hood and the Naked Emperor. Hilarious, I just had to be the Naked Emperor ^_^
I mean, just look at him!! So awkward!

Miss deluxe also showed us her progress in Skyrim, since me and Ninjabrite hadn’t seen it yet, and when she started her last save file something weird happened.. her character was headless. Anyone encountered this before? lol…

Well now it’s back to editing the Castlevania videos! Hopefully I’ll be done soon.. ^^

Sega Saturn Game Lot!

I got the games I ordered to my Sega Saturn. The games are: The Lost World : Jurassic Park, Wipeout 2097, Die Hard Trilogy, Gun Griffon, Tomb Raider, Black Dawn, Ghen Wars, Sega Ages Volume 1, Lemmings 3D, Panzer Dragoon II, Street Racer, Virtual On and Crackdown for Sega Megadrive (or Genesis as they call it in the US).

Most of the games I bought mainly ’cause they were extremely cheap, and that also most definitely means that they are crappy, but there’s a charm to playing even the crappy games sometimes, AVGN made that abundantly clear ^^
The only slightly pricier one was Panzer Dragoon II, I read that it was a great game though (the first one, but I assume that the sequel must at least be tolerable as well then).

I bought Crackdown to Mega Drive because it made me think of the Crackdown games for Xbox 360 (which I strongly enjoy), and deep down I was hoping that it was a long forgotten prequel to these games.. it’s most likely not though..

There was no picture of the Crackdown game when I ordered it, so naturally I googled it to see what it actually was. This is what I found…

I had seen this picture before, on some joke-site or something, and I thought: “For real?! Coooool! You fight a giant evil goat! And you’re playing as kickass 90’s Arnold/Jackie Chan wannabes with a sidekick chimp and… star troopers?!? AWESOME!”

Now.. google can be misleading sometimes. I of course got the boring PAL version. This made me go deeper into google’s black depth of facts and fiction and this is what I found:

The first one must be fake ’cause I only found one single picture of it on one single actual box cover. The second one appeared multiple times when googling the US version (Genesis) so it must be the official US release. The third one has Japanese writing in top right corner, so it’s the Japanese release. And the last one is the one I got… kind of resembles the first picture, evil guy in the back (but not a goat..), two armed guys in front (however no machine guns or Jackie Chan wannabes, instead caucasian blondes in colourful tights! AND NO MONKEYS OR STAR TROOPERS!!!) Damn.. that’s disappointing..

So I’ve tried playing Crackdown for Sega Megadrive, and it was actually pretty good. It had an intro telling the story of two agents having to plant special bombs. Best of all it has a multiplayer mode where you co-op through the missions, and good music. The gameplay was smooth and easy controls, you could sneak up against walls, shoot different weapons or knock out bad guys with your fists, and shoot in 8 different directions.

Downside.. the actual gameplay takes place in only like 1/4 part of the screen! What’s up with that?!? Do I RLY! need to know every tiny little detail about the different bad guys on each stage? Couldn’t the ammo and life info be displayed discretely in the bottom of the screen over the actual gameplay, like in any other game like Super Mario Bros for example? Well, apart from that it seemed like a good game. I’ll review the Saturn games later =)
