Retrospelsmässan 2018

This Saturday me and my Geeky Gals went to Scandinavia’s largest retro gaming convention, Retrospelsmässan in Gothenburg! Like last year we got to host a Tetris competition in Super Tetris 3 for Super Famicom, and this year we also held a tournament in GoldenEye 007 for Nintendo 64 :D You can read more about the competitions on Geeky Gals blog, meanwhile here’s some pics the convention :)

Since I left my little girl at home with her dad I couldn’t stay at the convention much longer than the duration of the contests we hosted, but I did get a few minutes to quickly scour the market XD Also I had made a few deals beforehand ^_^ I am really pleased with all the items that came home with me :D First of all I got 4 more Tetris games for the Tetris collection!! One was a gift from Sonefors <3 the other three I bought from my friend Kralleman :) The three I bought are a bit rare to come by here in Sweden, one is a prototype of Tetris Attack for the Super Nintendo. It reads SNS-AYLE on the label and I think it’s either North or South American. The other two are games I already have as well but from different regions, one is the NES classic Tetris but the Asian version, this one has a beautiful light grey cartridge <3 The other is a Brasilian Tetris 2 for Nintendo NES. From Sonefors I got a PC CD-rom big box version of The Next Tetris :D I am happy to have also brought home an old PC that I bought a while back from my friend Nesfrk, he has been fixing it for me so I hope it works now, if it does I have SO MANY PC CD-ROM Tetris games to try out :D :D

Here’s the cool vintage PC that Nesfrk brought to me at the convention, it is clever since the screen is mounted on top of the computer so it doesn’t consume as much space <3

Compaq Presario 5226 PC

I also found a few Philips Videopac games! (Or Magnavox Odyssey as it was called in North America) They all had some sweet boxart, and Blobbers was apparently quite rare, but the best one is definitely Hot Love! XD It has been my latest focus in my collecting to find Erotic games for various retro video game systems! :D I just find it so fascinating and funny, especially when it’s really shitty graphics! XD Hot Love for Magnavox Odyssey 2 even came with a free condom!! LOL Unfortunately though Turtles had the wrong game inside, Turtles is number 49 in the series, but inside I found cartridge 52 which is a game called Killer Bees, so now I have to start searching for the Killer Bees box and a loose cartridge no. 49…

Lastly I also found a Sega Genesis game that I’ve had my eye on many times. Boogerman A Pick and Flick Adventure! Now I came across it at a cheap price and in really minty condition ^_^ Thanks to MSX at Butik Mackapär for always selling such cool games! I also recently acquired a Genesis so I can play it too! :D

Sega Genesis Boogerman A pick and flick adventure

I wish I had more time to explore the rest of the convention, but I’ll have to do that next year :) Then my daughter can come with me as well :D I’m still really happy with my findings in such a short amount of time ^_^

Retrospelsmässan 2017

This year we finally got to attend Retrospelsmässan again, Sweden’s largest retro gaming convention! Thanks to Sven666 and Quartex who revived the franchise :) It was a blast as always, and bigger than ever! They used a larger venue, and this year there were finally not a single issue regarding the queues! Good job guys! :D

Retrospelsmässan RSM 2017

I had a table shared with a my friend Cleareyes this year, where I sold off some of my doubles. I was also given the task of arranging a Tetris competition during the afternoon :) I had picked out a Tetris game and a way of competing that wouldn’t be too time consuming. I chose Super Tetris 3 for Super Famicom. In 2-player VS mode we had tryouts of 64 people that competed :) 32 remained, and then 16, then 8, then 4 and eventually just 2 people who battled for the title of RSM’s Tetris champion ^_^ I hardly managed to take any pics during the competition but I got to borrow some from my friend and also avid Tetris collector Daniel Engdahl :) Thanks!

I got to play a versus game with the winner afterwards. First to 3 wins and he beat me by 3-2. I got distracted in the last match XD

The convention was a blast, unfortunately I didn’t have time to explore all the tables and all the exhibitors as much as I would have liked. I spent most of the time talking to friends that I bumped into :) It’s such a great place for all of us nerds to gather and hang out ^_^ I’m already looking forward to Retrospelsmässan 2018!

Retro Rumble 2016 ~ Winter Edition ~

I managed to squeeze in another Retro Rumble before the year ended, on December 27th. This time was an all-time high in the amount of visitors! We were over 30 people! At least 21 of these were competing in the Retro Rumble competition ^_^ It was great, and a bit crowded XD A lot of old friends who I haven’t seen for a while came this time, and also a bunch of new friends who had never visited my game room before! :D My godson Benjamin is now the youngest Retro Rumble visitor ever XD

The competition consisted of 5 games that everyone had to play. These were:
1. Race on Philips Videopac 7200, one try, 2 minutes, get the highest score.
2. Metagalactic Llamas Battle at the Edge of Time on VIC-20. One life, get the highest score.
3. Spaceman Splorf on C64. One life, get the highest score.
4. Cycho Rider on PC Engine CD. One try, 2 minutes, get the highest score.
5. Katochyan & Kenchyan on PC Engine. One life, one stage, get the highest score.

Everybody competes individually but they’re also divided into teams, there’s a winning team score as well as an individual score :) The winning team was team “Spökplumpen” with Mattias, Matte and Leigh! :D The individual scores were really close this time, so we had to have an extra match to see who would make it into the semi-finals. This stood between Christian and Klas. They got to play The Kick Boxing on Sega Mega Drive and Christian came out victorious! :)

In the semi-finals the 4 highest scoring individuals battled in 3 different games on Super Famicom. I usually have these games or similar ones, because it’s so convenient using the Super Famicom multitap, and there’s just so many games on the system which has 4 player compatibility. The games they competed in were VS Collection, Sugoi Hebereke and Super Bomberman 2.

The two highest scores from the semi-finals were Matte and Christian. They went on to play in the finals which started of with Freeway on Atari 2600 :D Christian won this one, and the second game was Air Sea Battle on Philips Videopac G7200. They couldn’t seem to win over eachother in this one, after two rounds it was a draw XD So it ended with a game of Combat on Atari 2600 and Christian came out victorious! Congrats! :D

I know a few people have contacted me about what their scores were, here you can download the PDF >>

Thanks to everyone who attended! Hopefully I’ll see you again for a new Retro Rumble coming up in 2017! :D

Retro Rumble 2016

This weekend I had the first Retro Rumble game night and competition of 2016. I’m really happy that so many people could join! A total of 22 guys and gals were competing, and a few more were there spectating ^_^ It was a blast, and even though there were so many people competing everything went extremely smoothly!

All of the 22 contestants got to compete in 6 games. The games that were played were:
Psycho Chaser for PC Engine, first stage, 1 life and best score.
Race for Philips Videopac, 2 minutes score attack.
Sonic 2 for Sega Mega Drive, first stage, speedrun, best time.
Phoenix for Atari 2600, 1 life, best score.
Daiku no Gensan for Famicom, first stage, one life, best score.
Sachen Tetris for NES, level 9, 30 lines, best score.

When all the games were played one team had the highest score and won the A-Team price! Congrats NinjaBrite, Matt8Bit & Slurpas!

Before the semi-finals we stopped for a retro gaming quiz that I put togehter ^_^ Some of the questions were a bit difficult on purpose but a majority of the questions had 4 options for answers :) The quiz master was KRS ^_^

Wobbly, KRS, TekkenCarr and Slurpas made it to the semi-finals! They got to compete in three games. First up was Horace Goes Skiing for ZX Spectrum, where they had one pair of skis to get as high of a score as possible. Next up was Sugoi no Hebereke and VS Collection on the Super Famicom. It was a good fight!

Slurpas and TekkenCarr came out victorious and made it to the finals where they competed in Twinkle Star Sprites on Neo Geo MVS arcade, Joy Mecha Fight on Famicom and finally Pong on my new Ajax TV Game system ^_^ It was an even fight but the Pong match settled the score and Slurpas became our 2016 Retro Rumble Champion! Congraturation A Winner Is You!! XD

Once the competition was finished we continued gaming all night long ^__^ So much fun! Thanks to everyone who attended! <3

Now here’s some more pics from the evening :D

Gaming 4
Another game played in the competition was Ayrton Sienna’s Super Monaco GP II on the Sega Mega Drive: First lap on Free Run, Spain course, 7-gear manual, best time :) This time nobody crashed!! I guess it’s easier to crash into the signs in the first Super Monaco GP, this one is a bit more forgiving ;D

Semifinals 1 Semifinals 4 Semifinals 6
Then it was time for the Semi-finals! The four contenders were Klabbe, Gabbi, Super Mario Långben & Murazor! First game up was Spark World on the Super Famicom. This game is fun, and kind of exactly like Bomberman, except you are cars, that shoot sparks, and there’s loads more powerups :D The second game played was Sugoi Hebereke, also on Super Famicom, it’s a super-kawaii brawler with the Hebereke (Uforia) characters ^___^

Semifinals 7
Last game in the semi-finals was Super Tetris 3 on Super Famicom. After this Klabbe and Super Mario Långben continued on to the Finals!

Finals 8 Finals 4
In the Finals they competed in Nekketsu Kōkō Dodgeball Bu on the PC Engine.

Finals TV outlaw
And also Outlaw for the Atari 2600 :D Brilliant game in multiplayer ^__^

Finals 9
And finally the fighting game Ranma 1/2 on Super Famicom. After this we had a victorious Retro Rumble champion!

Winners
And this was Super Mario Långben! (to the left) and Klabbe came in second ^_^ I also had a team competition, whoever’s team score came in first won the team-team-team prize!

Team team team
And here’s the A-TEAM! :D NinjaBrite, Gabbi & MissDeluxxe! Congrats girls ^_^

Fixed it!
Thanks everyone for joining in! And special thanks to Günther McSwaggah for helping me handle the camera while I was keeping scores and to Matt8Bit and Meckis for fixing my Magnavox Odyssey 2001! ^___^ We ended the evening playing Tennis and Hockey (Pong.. and Pong with obstacles… lol…)

Retro Rumble 2014!

Retro Rumble is back! Yesterday I had a retro gaming get-together with a retro gaming quiz and retro game competitions in my game room ^_^ I was very happy to have GamingGrannar visiting me for the weekend, they arrived already Friday to make a video of my retro game collection. Keep an eye out for the episodes that will show up on their blog soon :) They stayed and took part of Retro Rumble on Saturday as well. There was a lot of gaming this entire weekend! :D

At the end of the evening we ended up playing a lot of Utsurun desu. Ka wa uso hawai e iku. A really strange japanese game for the Famicom, but so very very very entertaining! :D I recommend anyone with a Famicom to try this one out!

Here’s what the chubby-legged guy in a beaver suit looks like when he’s jumping:

And here’s some other moves (the gentle wave of the hand is his main attack.. he can also dance and cast out some dance flames) ;D

Thanks to all of those who came and played, and watched, and laughed, and enjoyed some retro gaming goodness ^__^ And to all of those who didn’t make it I hope to see you next time!
