This gaming exhibition is held in the Technical Museum of Stockholm, so we made sure to visit a few other attractions there as well, like the distorted mirrors :D and the gift shop haha ^_^

They had a lot of retro gaming stuff, both old arcades on display and a bunch of systems, some that are quite rare! Like the Sega Wondermega! There were over 100 games that could be played, it was a really nice setup ^_^ Unfortunately you could only visit for a limited time, since they had so many visitors a day that they had to make sure new people got to go in and see it as well. I think it was only about an hour or two before you had to leave :( But we had time to see most things and try a few things out ^_^

The last room contained a bunch of original arcade cabinets! This was awesome ^_^ You could try out loads of things, both new and old, like Galaga, Pacman Plus, Donkey Kong, Tron, Mappy and lots more ^_^

Old Sega Mega Drive and Atari ads!

Today I went to a flea market where I sometimes go on Sundays. This place is mainly filled with antiques, porcelain, books and interior decorations.  I’ve never seen any games or electronics there, it’s more vintage stuff, but I like that too ^_^ However today I found something gaming related! I saw a stand filled with old comic books from the early 90’s, like the Phantom and Modesty Blaise (which in Swedish is Agent X9) and I thought of my friend Gabriella who likes Modesty ^_^ I picked one up and saw an old ad for Sega on the back!I thought this was so cool that I had to go through the backs of every magazine they had to see if there were more! And there was!!! I ended up buying 10 magazines with gaming ads on the back and I thought I would share them here. Even if they are in Swedish I hope you all can enjoy it, I will translate the ridiculous slogans they had ;D

First of all here are the magazines I bought, Modesty Blaise sure does look cool ^_^

Package in the mail today! Atari, Sega, PC Engine & Atomic Robo-kid!

Today I got two packages in the mail. It was a treat since I had totally forgot what it was that I had bought ^_^ (Yes my memory is sometimes like the one of a goldfish >_<) Anyway, the first package came in a padded envelope, inside was this really convenient box for the size of a CD case! (Yes, small details and things like this amazes me…)

And in the package was also what looked like a 10.000 ¥en bill?!

But this turned out to be a printed thank-you-for-buying-note! Really clever ^_^ Thank you Game Sensei! It was a true pleasure doing business with you :D And below you can see that the game I had bought was Atomic Robo-kid for PC Engine!

So I tried this game out tonight, and it was a blast!! A great horizontal shooter, with this cute Atomic Robo-kid sprite and cool powerups! It was really fast and fun!

Below follows a montage with screenshots and gifs I made from gameplay footage ^_^ All images are clickable to view larger :)

I got to the second boss, but then I got a Game Over after having used up all my continues >.< It was quite hard, but I will try to give it another go soon ^_^ In the second package I got two Sega games, Gangster Town for Sega Master System and Slime World for Sega Mega Drive. I’ve been looking for Slime World since I saw that TheSegaDude had gotten it ;D And I finally found a decent japanese copy of the game. Can’t wait to try it out! :D

I love the boxart for Slime World!! I have no idea what Gangster Town is.. it was dirt cheap! so I bought it…

Two other games were hiding in the second package! Star Wars Jedi Arena and Millipede for Atari 2600! Millipede also had a manual, something I was not even aware of when I bought it on Ebay ^_^ It’s huuuuge compared to the actual game haha! :D

The Millipede manual actual contains some hints to this incredibly frustrating game ;D It says:
Make sure you keep your eye on the millipede while you’re getting rid of the other pests. The millipede can sneak up on you if you’re not careful (NO SHIT!) so keep it under control.
… Each insect has its own unique sound so listen closely and you can anticipate what will be coming next!
(I actually did not know that! Did you?)

Atari 2600 – Pac-Kong, Crystal Castles, Star Wars and more!

I recently purchased some Atari 2600 games. I haven’t gotten anything new for that console in a while so finding these made me really happy ^_^
I looked up some gameplay videos of them before buying, and I only bought games I thought looked enjoyable. The games I got were Pac-Kong, Star Wars the Empire Strikes Back, Crystal Castles, Solaris, Kangaroo, Reactor, Gangster Alley and Smurfs. I also took the games out for a little photo shoot today since they are all so pretty that they deserve it! :D

Star Wars the Empire Strikes Back I already had for the C64, but it loads way faster on the Atari ;D The gameplay is basically about taking out the AT-AT Walkers. When you’ve shot them a few times they change color until they eventually vanish.

Crystal Castles is a really fun game. I’ve played the Arcade version a lot on the Game Room Arcade simulation on Xbox 360. The Atari 2600 version has of course much more simple graphics, but the concept is the same and the gameplay is fun! You are a little bear who has to collect all the dots while avoiding enemies to get to the next stage ^_^

Solaris looked like a fun game. You’re flying through space and the effects are kinda cool for being Atari 2600. I didn’t quite get what you were supposed to do though.. You can shoot stuff, and you travel through hyper-space or warps or something.. and sometimes there’s a map o_O

Kangaro is kind of like Donkey Kong, make it to the top of the platforms while avoiding enemies or obstacles. Except you are a Kangaroo, and you can jump and punch stuff ^_^

Reactor I bought mainly because I saw this ad from when the game came out in 1982. The actual game made no sense though. I just kept getting blown up.. I think?

Pac-Kong I bought without hesitation just because of the name! Pac-man and Donkey Kong in one game??? With a picture of a Transformer on the cartridge?!? Well, it was definitely similar to Donkey Kong, the main character looks a LOT like Super Mario, and there were also similarities to Pac-Man if the enemies were supposed to look like ghosts, which I believe. It was hard to avoid them though..

In Gangster Alley you have a cross and you’re supposed to shoot the gangsters in the windows. It lacks sound though, except for a tiny effect when you shot, it made it kind of dull.

The Smurf’s had nice animation for being Atari 2600. The sprite actually looked like a Smurf! :D But, I couldn’t make it passed the first obstacle, a STUPID FENCE! I kept trying to jump over it but no matter how close or how far away I was from it I couldn’t get past it >_<

Stupid fence…

Retro console photo shoot part II

Here’s the rest of the consoles and their accessories that got the opportunity to take a little walk with me and my camera ^_^

My Games!

I haven’t been updating for a few days, cause I’ve been busy sorting my games, and while I was at it I took some pics ^_^

I’ve only gone through 4 systems so far.. still have a few to go..
